What Do the Laws in Washington and Idaho Say?

Washington State has a strict liability statute for dog bites. What does that mean exactly? While it's too complicated to fully explain here, strict liability essentially means that you don't have to prove the animal's owner was negligent or that the dog was known to be a "biter" in order to recover damages. Idaho, by contrast, does not have a State dog bite statute but there are some cities that have passed ordinances imposing strict liability on dog owners for the damages caused by attacks.

Last, even if there's no statute or ordinance, dog bite lawsuits can also be brought on the basis of negligence.
